The Maid

The Maid - Nita Prose

my review : ✮✮✮✮

Is there anything better than an incredibly well done mystery?

You will be racing to finish this book. The writing is perfection, our lovely main character is easy to adore, and the ride will leave you breathless.

Our story follows Molly Gray, who is a bit reminiscent of Eleanor Oliphant and Fern in The Good Sister - in that she has some struggles understanding social skills and navigating certain situations. Her grandmother used to help her interpret the world but since she died a few months ago, Molly has been a bit lost at sea. Luckily, Molly adores her job as a maid at the incredible extravagant Regency Grand Hotel in NYC (In my mind I set this book at The Drake in Chicago- same vibes!). But Molly’s orderly life is turned upside down the day she enters the suite of very famous and very wealthy Mr. Black to find him dead in his bed. Molly is thrown right into the investigation, and when her unique demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect, she finds herself caught in a web of deception and lies.

A proper mystery that has you falling over yourself to solve it, like a good game of clue or your first viewing of Knives Out. Experiencing this story through Molly’s POV is a treat and I love the behind the scenes view of this elegant hotel.

So many thrillers can leave you satisfied but disturbed; I can assure you this mystery will leave you hopeful and breathless.

Best paired with a glass of Chardonnay, Molly’s favorite. Let’s do something really buttery and delicious and pair it with goat cheese. Or - scrap that idea and head to the OG (Olive Garden), Molly would approve.

I am just delighted to learn this will be a movie starring Florence Pugh as Molly! I die.

Oh - I did learn a very important lesson after reading this book: Whatever I am tipping maids at hotels is NOT ENOUGH.

xx
