Beautiful Ugly

Beautiful Ugly - Alice Feeney

my review : ✮✮✮

What a whirlwind. This book is a doozy. I find Alice Feeney to be so good at writing truly atmospheric novels that leave you feeling unsettled while reading. My favorite of hers remains Rock, Paper, Scissors.

One year ago, Grady’s wife pulled her car over to help a pedestrian in the street and was never seen again. Grady, a successful writer, can’t eat or sleep, let alone write anything, since he lost her. When his agent offers him a writer’s cabin on a small and secluded island to get his creative juices flowing, he jumps at the chance for a change of pace. But when he arrives at the island, it’s clear that something is amiss.

This book is one of those thrillers that takes its time letting the story unravel. It’s full of twists and turns and is adored by many, but I found some elements to be absurdly disconnected from reality! Maybe that’s the beauty of fiction, but I kept getting distracted by asking myself, “In what world!?” Still, it was a fun read that I didn’t even consider not finishing.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Alice Feeney

  • Atmospheric novels

  • Suspending your disbelief
