All the Other Mothers Hate Me

All the Other Mothers Hate Me - Sarah Harman
my review : ✮✮✮✮
Sorry! This isn’t out yet, but I liked it, so add yourself to the library hold list if it sounds like something you’d be interested in!
This book is described as a “satirical thriller.” I had no clue what that would look like going into the book, but it makes perfect sense after reading it. The premise is ripped right out of a thriller (a boy goes missing during a school field trip), yet the execution is SO unlike that of a thriller. It’s about a mom who decides to investigate what happened to the missing boy in a Nancy Drew-style manner through a string of terrible decisions.
Our heroine is a single mom/former girl band member living in London whose life is not going as she had planned. When her son’s school reveals one of their students went missing during the school field trip, and she has reason to believe her 10-year-old son may become the prime suspect, she knows she has to figure out what actually happened to the little boy.
Not only do all the mothers hate Florence, but I also hate Florence (ok, “hate” might be a little harsh). I am not used to a leading woman who is hard to root for. Despite seriously disliking Flo, I seriously liked the story. It was biting and twisty and thoroughly entertaining. It is not as depressing as the missing kid plot would have you believe.
This book is being developed as a TV show by the same guy who did The Bear, which is SO exciting. I can’t wait to see this translated on screen. I am so interested in who they cast as Flo and if they dull some of her sharper edges. I can’t wait to hear what you guys think of this one.
