You're Invited - Amanda Jayatissa
my review : ✮✮✮
This thriller, set at an over-the-top wedding amongst the 1% of Sri Lanka, is filled with so many twists and turns, that you’ll get whiplash.
Our story follows Amaya, who has just been invited to her (former) best friend’s opulent - to put it lightly - wedding. She is shocked and a little hurt to hear from her friend after so many years of radio silence. But when Amaya learns that the groom is her ex-boyfriend, she is consumed by a single thought: She must stop the wedding from happening, no matter the cost. The story opens up with someone who has gone missing and the investigators trying to get to the bottom of it…and it just gets crazier from there.
This book was a well-told, suspenseful story that alternated Amaya’s POV with investigator interviews of potential suspects. You will be guessing up until the very end.
I loved learning about Sri Lanka and getting a feel for the native language. I am seeing a ton of glowing reviews about this book, but some parts felt… unnecessary? (If you’ve read it: the whole Alexander bit - I have no clue what that had to do with the rest of the story, it just left me off kilter?)
Best paired with a chilled bottle of Cristal because they talk about it this entire book, and I am mortified I’ve never had it. Splurging on a glass ASAP!
