The Seven Year Slip
The Seven Year Slip - Ashley Poston
my review : ✮✮✮✮
What a fun, heart-wrenching, life-affirming, romantic ride. Let me start by saying this is a VERY UNCONVENTIONAL ROMANCE. We are bending the laws of TIME, people! This is not a fantasy novel, it’s firmly rooted in reality except for the teeny tiny detail of time travel. If you can’t get past the whole bend-in-time thing, I totally get it, and I’d skip it. But, if you’re like me and welcome the wacky from time to time, I think you’ll have a lovely time reading this.
Our story follows Clementine and the ENTIRE book I just kept thinking “Could I pull off naming my future daughter Clementine!?” Ok, so Clementine is a bit burnt out from her career in publishing and is dealing with the grief of losing her beloved aunt who passed away 6 months ago. Clementine was willed her aunt’s gorgeous condo that she spent countless days in growing up, and her aunt always told her there was something magical about the home. When Clementine comes home from one particularly exhausting day of work and finds a (handsome! charming! freckled!) man in her condo she realizes the magic her aunt hinted at is in fact true. Because, this man exists 7 years in the past (!!!!!!!!!). This is a very bendy love story brimming with sweetness, and I am not just talking about the lemon pie this dude makes!
I found this book to be such a refreshing offbeat romance. I was expecting heart-tugging dialogue and butterfly-inducing banter which this story delivered on. What I wasn’t expecting was the thoughtful descriptions of grief that I found comforting.
Navigating the bending of time left my head spinning a bit, but overall I was just so happy throughout this book. I think you can predict where this story is going from a mile away, but nevertheless I found the ride enjoyable.
With a name like Clementine we are obviously pairing this with a taste clementine cocktail. I snagged this recipe from @thekitchn and made a few little notifications. you can swipe to find it! cheers! 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊
