Holiday Romance
Holiday Romance - Catherine Walsh
my review : ✮✮✮✮
I started another book, thanks to your recommendations. I just adored this one and loved the premise, the writing, and the characters. If you are a fan of a friends-to-lovers story, don't even think twice; just pick this up.
Our story is about two good friends, Molly & Andrew. These two are both Irish ex-pats currently living in the best city in the USA (Chicago). They met by chance 10 years ago and have always shared the same flight back home to Ireland for Christmas. Over the years, they've started new traditions on the flight, exchanging gifts and spending hours catching up. Their friendship is adorable (and absurd… like… how did you not get together sooner?? Ok, sorry, I digress…. also, I swear this isn't a spoiler! what were you expecting!?). This year, Molly and Andrew's flight is canceled thanks to a terrible storm over the Atlantic. Andrew is devastated he can't get home to his family, so Molly does everything in her power to get him back to Ireland before Christmas Day. So, this becomes a total Planes, Trains, and Automobiles situation as these two jet around the world to circumvent a storm and get home for Christmas. During their first whirlwind travel day, they run into a sprig of mistletoe, and nothing is ever the same….
This book is sprinkled with holiday magic. It does a great job of getting you in the holiday spirit without turning into a cheesy Hallmark movie (no shade to Hallmark, what do you think I'm watching right now!?). I just loved "visiting" London and Ireland for the holidays. The perfect book to get you in the holiday spirit. Also, why do I never run into mistletoe anywhere!? When I was single, I used to wear a headband with mistletoe on it for the holiday season, but that is a story for another time.
This story kind of reminds me of People You Meet On Vacation without all the angst. I will say the love story is… realistic? I think you'll know what I mean if you've read it. It feels like a story that would happen to real people (vs. some of my favorite love stories that are such high stakes/drama that the chemistry is off the charts, but it would honestly be horrifying if it happened IRL).
