From Blood & Ash and Flesh & Fire Series
From Blood & Ash and Flesh & Fire Series - Jennifer L. Armentrout
my review : ✮✮✮✮
I HAD THE BEST TIME READING THIS SERIES. I wouldn’t consider this a beginner fantasy book because it was very plot-heavy, and honestly, I found myself being like, “??? wtf is going on,” but I eventually figured it out…. I think. This is a SPICY B.R.A.D. SERIES, which made wading through all the plot points worth it, hehehe.
So I read two series per the author’s recommendation (more info on that saved to my highlight). Here’s the scoop on what I read… Blood and Ash is a 7 book series with 5 of the books out now. Flesh and Fire is the spin-off prequel series that is composed of 4 books, 3 of which are out now.
While these are two separate series, their storylines interconnect a bit, so the author’s recommended reading order alternates between the two series. I’m the comments I give my brief & spoiler-free thoughts on the books in the order the author recommends reading them.
TL;DR: Jennifer Armetrout’s books are so fun and sexy, starring strong and badass leading women. They’re basically SJM books with not as good writing but way more spice! The Flesh & Fire series was really the standout to me; I think I liked it even better than FBAA. J.A really shines in the beginning of her series, but then it feels like she starts draaaaging the series out. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun with this.
Best paired with the Honeydew Melon Bellini (NAUGHTY!) courtesy of cheersandchapters.com. Swipe for the recipe 🍈 1. From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash series): OMG SO GOOD. Couldn’t put it down. Sexy, VERY QUICK READ. Once you start, you can’t stop. 5/5
2. Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (Blood and Ash series): The perfect follow-up, with lots of action and romance. 5/5
3. The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash series): I really enjoyed this one. The plot is heavy and has lots of smut. I have no complaints here. 4/5
4. A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire series). OBSESSED. NO NOTES!! 5/5
5. The War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash series): Sooooo loooooong. I half read, and half listened to this. 2.5/5
6. A Light in the Flame (Flesh and Fire series): It was torture having to finish War of Two Queens before reading this. Missed these characters so much. LOVED THIS. 5/5
7. A Soul of Ash and Blood (Blood and Ash series): I would have enjoyed this book more if I didn’t binge the series. This book is basically Book 1 told from the guy’s POV, which I think I would have loved if I hadn’t read Book 1 a week prior. It was repetitive, but overall, it added to the story, and the ending left me excited for the next one. 3/5
8. A Fire in the Flesh (Flesh and Fire series): The series takes a dark turn, but it is still really good but more action/anticipation 4/5
