Listen for the Lie
Listen for the Lie - Amy Tintera
my review : ✮✮✮✮
I think my favorite thing about this thriller was the pacing. The super short chapters made it impossible to put down. If you pick this up, I guarantee you’ll find yourself saying, “Just one more chapter.”
The entire small town of Plumpton, Texas, thinks that Lucy killed her best friend, Savannah, 5 years ago. Including Lucy … maybe? Lucy has no recollection of the night and was never put on trial due to the police department’s lack of evidence against her. But, ever since she was found covered in her friend’s blood wandering the streets, the public has decided she was the murderer. Since the murder, she’s moved to LA and led a relatively quiet life … until a famous true crime podcast host sets his sights on Savannah’s death and puts Lucy back into the spotlight as he tries to figure out what happened on that fateful night.
Lucy is sarcastic and self-deprecating; her personality makes this story very entertaining. It is refreshing to read a thriller with a little bit of a sense of humor! As a reader, trying to figure out who the hell killed Savvy kept me on the edge of my seat. This is about a grizzly murder, but it’s not a thriller that kept me up at night.
This story alternates between Lucy’s POV and snippets from the podcast series. Not everyone loves podcasting elements in thrillers, but I thought this was really well done.
(A note on amnesia: I don’t know how amnesia or memory reconciliation works, so maybe if you’re in the medical field, don’t go overly critical of the details of her injury! Or do! What do I know!!)
