The Heiress
The Heiress -Rachel Hawkins
my review : ✮✮✮✮
This story of family drama, obscene wealth, and dark secrets had me hooked from the beginning. If you’re in the mood for a quick and not-too-dark domestic thriller, this is for you.
The McTavish family has been ruling the town of Tavistock from the Ashby House, their family estate, for generations. The family matriarch, Ruby, is known not only for being the richest woman in North Carolina but also for being a widow four times over (!). When she passed away, she left the entire McTavish fortune to her adopted son, Camden. Yet, he wants nothing to do with the money or the insane family that still resides in the Ashby House, so he decides to settle down across the country, where he finds his wife, Jules, far from the influence of the McTavish family. Ten years after his mother’s death, Cam’s uncle dies, and Cam is forced to return to the Ashby house with Jules in tow and the hope that the darkness in this house and his family does not infiltrate the idyllic life he’s built.
A well-told and twisty story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Great storytelling that kept me captivated until the end!
Best paired with a bottle of 1959 Dom Perignon Rosé (Rose’s favorite drink) if you can swing a $30K bottle of bubbles (Can you even!? Now I want to take a sip!!). Or, if you aren’t a Vanderbilt, you can pair this with any glass of sparkling rosé (I’m a sucker for Veuve, and it’s .3% of the price!!)
