Emma of 83rd Street
Emma of 83rd Street - Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding
my review : ✮✮✮✮
This book was purely delightful and fun to read. This is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma, and I was so pleasantly surprised by it. It’s one of those fluffy stories where nothing truly bad happens, and the characters don’t seem to have any real problems, and sometimes that’s exactly the kind of escape you need. Some may find Emma to be a bit obnoxious (Jane Austen herself said no one but her could ever love Emma Woodhouse!), but I found her totally lovable in how over the top she is... her heart is always in the right place! I want to be her best friend! I want to attend Sunday dinner! I want her to teach me how to pronounce Lowe (I truly learned via this book that I have been pronouncing it wrong for years- Emma would be horrified)!
This is a friends-to-lovers story where it’s very clear everyone’s in love with each other, but it’s just fun to watch play out. This isn’t a B.R.A.D. but it is open door! I haven’t read Emma, but I thought these authors did a great job of staying true to Austen’s Regency England and the characters despite it being set in present-day NYC!
If you need a break from all the heaviness and want a light little romp through the Upper East Side, pick this up. Bonus: It was released last summer, so there might not be a long hold line at your library!
Best paired with a drink from @lifemadestylish’s cocktail book, Gin Austen! Finding this book was a highlight of my week! There are so many excellent cocktails, and she has an entire chapter on Emma. I went with the “No Weymouth”. Book linked in my stories!
