The Rule Book

The Rule Book - Sarah Adams

my review : ✮✮✮✮

Are you looking for a little levity? I’m here to say you’ve found it!! This book is sweet, sexy, and brimming with tension. It was exactly the romance I needed! Nothing is better than wanting to read something slowly because you’re so smitten with it.

Nora Mackenzie is taking the sports agent world by storm. She’s finally landed her first client, and it’s a big one: star tight end Derek Pender. The only issue? Derek is Nora’s college ex-boyfriend, and they haven’t spoken since the fateful night they broke up. When Nora meets Derek, she’s hoping that they can put their relationship behind them and work together, Derek is shocked to learn the agent everyone calls “Mac” is his ex-girlfriend. Nora begs Derek to give her a chance; Derek agrees but internally knows he is going to make her life hell. DRAMA!

I think this is my favorite Sarah Adams book yet. It felt like her sexiest book that I’ve read of hers, and I would say that even if I skipped Chapter 34 (Adams starts the book with an author note calling out which chapter is “open door” so you can skip it if you prefer a closed door romance)! Sure, at times I felt like the leading woman was a caricature of a super bubbly/sunshine-y heroine, but just because I don’t know someone like her in real life doesn’t mean she doesn’t exist!

This is part of the same universe as Adams’ other book, The Cheat Sheet, but can be read standalone, although I’d advise against it because I adored The Cheat Sheet.

If you want light & fluffy—which I truly mean as a major compliment—look no further.

This is a second chance, dual POV, only one-bed romance. So much fun!

This is best paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream sprinkled with Cinnamon Toast Crunch (the couple’s favorite treat), but if you’d prefer to go the cocktail route, I’d recommend the strawberry lime c/mocktail margarita (if opting to add booze, try to avoid any chapels in Vegas IYKYK!).

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • Sports romance

  • Second chance romance
