The Housemaid

The Housemaid - Freida McFadden

my review : ✮✮✮✮

Add this thriller to your TBR list ASAP. This is the perfect book to read by the fire as fresh autumn air breezes into the room. This may be the book for you if you need to get out of a reading slump.

DO NOT READ the synopsis on Goodreads. I have no idea who the hell wrote it, but I found it filled with spoilers and misleading. I went in blind thanks to a rec from a BR&B gal!

The book is about Millie, a down-on-her-luck woman living out of her car after being fired from her last job. Unfortunately, she’s having a hard time finding work as she spent the past 10 years in prison, and she can’t seem to make it past the background check stage of the interviews. That is until she finds the seemingly perfect job. Nina Winchester is looking for a nanny and cook. Lucky for Millie, the job requires her to live in the gorgeous Long Island Estate. Millie thinks the job is so out of her league she almost skips the interview, but to her surprise, she gets the job! Millie moves into the home and quickly realizes this job is kind of a nightmare. Nina is temperamental, the kid is a brat, the house is constantly a mess, and the room she’s staying in is creepy and unnerving. Millie decides to stick it out until her savings account has a few more 0s in it. I can’t figure out how to finish this review without spoiling it, but you get the premise!

You will FLY through this book. It is a super quick read that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Maybe a smidge predictable to the seasoned thriller reader but entertaining nonetheless. You may have to suspend your disbelief, but that is the beauty of a quick thriller- you can just get lost in it.

The only negative of this thriller is it is VERY similar to another beloved thriller of mine. I won’t tell you which because it’s a huge spoiler, but if you’ve read both, you will figure it out pretty quickly. Despite the similarities, I still loved this book and think the ending may have been even more satisfying than its predecessor!

you’ll love this book if you love:
