Not in Love
Not in Love - Ali Hazelwood
my review : ✮✮✮✮
WHEW. If you’ve been following along for more than 6 minutes, you’ll know how I feel about Ali Hazelwood. I think her brand of romance novels is fresh, sexy, and smart. The most common negative feedback I hear about her books is that they’re quite similar to each other, and to that, I say… what’s the issue? Every one of her books makes me want to kick my feet up and giggle my way through 200 pages of her sexy STEM stories. This book is a bit of a departure from her usual style. For one thing, it’s not a slow burn; it is a scorching fire from pretty much page 1. This book also feels a bit… darker(?) than her others… maybe that’s not the right word, but our leading characters have been through some serious shit in their lives and have the baggage to prove it. Less of a rom-com, more of a rom-dram (with some serious HEAT). It is similar to her other books in that the dialogue is brilliant, it’s set in a STEM environment that will have you going gaga for patents and labs and pipettes, the leading man is a dreamboat tall drink of water, and the leading lady is a badass brilliant woman in STEM. All that to say, it’s a slight departure, but if you’re a fan of her books, this is an absolute no-brainer.
This book is about a brilliant scientist, the lab she works for, the venture capitalists that buy it, and the fact that one of the main venture capital guys (cut me some slack, finance isn’t my forte) is a man she met for a hookup the night before the takeover was announced. They are terrible for each other!! Or are they?
This isn’t for everyone; it was for me. Again, not your typical romance. I was pretty gone for our leading man when he made French toast with homemade whipped cream. That honestly might be more of a turn-on than anything I’ve ever read in a B.R.A.D.
This is a “let’s get it out of our system” B.R.A.D., which is a favorite of mine. HINT: no one in a B.R.A.D. has ever gotten it out of their system. Has anyone in real life ever gotten someone out of their system in this way? It feels made up. But I love it.
Have you read it? Thoughts, please!!!
you’ll love this book if you love:
