Leather & Lark
Leather & Lark - Brynne Weaver
my review : ✮✮✮
Should I have read this dark & murdery book when my body is still flooded with postpartum hormones? Probably not… BUT I went in prepared for the disturbing content that’s to be expected in the Ruinous Love series. I also went in with sky high expectations because of how much I loved Butcher & Blackbird and I just think going into a book with high expectations is tricky! All this to say, me not loving this book is probably less of a reflection of the book and more a reflection on me being a sleep deprived, hormonal, dope!
This book is about a serial killer and a contract killer falling in love. Both of them only kill bad guys and the whole premise was super hot to me (what does that say about me!?). These two are pretty much instant enemies and for reasons that were kind of confusing to me they decided to get married. This book truly contained all of my favorite tropes: Fake marriage, enemies to lovers, a leading man with an Irish brogue… what more could you want!?
…..I am literally asking myself what more could I have wanted?! On paper this should have been 5 stars but I just didn’t love it!
I can’t put my finger on it but I just wasn’t obsessed with this book. I had a lot of fun reading this and just like B&B I had to skip over some gory bits but that didn’t take away from the story. I kept having this feeling like I was missing something when it came to the criminal backstory of these characters… I was constantly confused but honestly that could be due to my lack of sleep.
The spice was SPICY and freaking fun - definitely B.R.A.D. territory.
If you’ve read this please chime in your thoughts! I feel like I am in the minority on this one and am desperate to know what the rest of the BR&B gals think.
p.s. yes, I’ve already preordered Scythe & Sparrow (book 3) and this is the synopsis: Circus motorcycle performer Rose meets lonely small-town doctor Fionn after a night of murderous adventure goes awry. (!!!)
you’ll love this book if you love:
