Expiration Dates

Expiration Dates - Rebecca Serle

my review : ✮✮✮✮

I found this book to be refreshing, emotional, and thought-provoking. It’s a quick read, but Serle’s books always pack quite a punch in a small package.

Daphne Bell has an interesting relationship with the universe; for as long as she can remember, she receives a literal note from the universe telling her how long her relationships will last. It could say something like “Tyler: one night, one year, or one week,” etc. When we meet Daphne, she’s on her way to a first date with Jake, and on her car, she finds a note that says: “Jake” with no end date. Could this be... the one?

This reminded me more of In Five Years than One Italian Summer, and I thoroughly enjoy Serle’s unique storytelling. This book doesn’t skimp on details, from the clothes Daphne wears to the LA restaurants she frequents, and I had fun savoring the details. It felt a bit like a love letter to LA. At times, it was less of a romance and more of a coming-of-age novel. While it may be hard for me to decide what genre to classify it, it’s not hard for me to decide that I really enjoyed it. It’s thought-provoking and left me feeling like... LIFE!! Ya know? The kind of book you find yourself underlining (there were so many quotes I wanted to pull but I was wary of spoilers)!

Ok, Please read this and report back. I am DYING to dream cast!
