Tangled Up In You

Tangled Up In You - Christina Lauren

my review : ✮✮✮

This is a modern retelling of Disney’s Tangled, written by one of my favorite romcom authors, Christina Lauren. I have never seen Tangled, which probably means I am not qualified to review it, but I’ve never let my lack of qualifications stop me from doing anything! I found this to be a delightful departure from my usual romances.

Our story is about Ren & Fitz. Ren was raised on a homestead completely cut off from the outside world, and we meet her when she finally convinced her parents to let her go to college at the age of 22. Fitz is charming, handsome, and Ren’s tour guide on her first day of school. Ren is in school to learn and avoid all temptation, especially temptations that are tall, dark, and HANDSOME (I honestly forgot how they described Fitz, but every leading man is tall, dark, and handsome in my mind). When these two find themself in the same class and both headed in the same direction during Spring Break, the unlikely pair decides to road trip.

I love a road trip book (two of my favorite are Mrs. Nash’s Ashes & You, With a View… required reading if you love romance), so when this pair hit the road, I was thrilled. I thought the story was sweet, but the whole cut-off-from-the-world thing made me nervous for Ren to get into a relationship with the first red-blooded male to cross her path! Despite that, I had fun. This is a closed-door romance, which was SHOCKING, given this is Christina Lauren, the queen of a well-done steamy scene, though it felt appropriate for the book and the leading lady. It’s not my favorite Christina Lauren book (I wasn’t doing my normal giggling and kicking my feet up thing while reading this), but I was still charmed by it.

The biggest twist in this whole book actually happens in the acknowledgments! Lauren of Christina Lauren mentions that the hot tub scene is her favorite scene that they’ve ever written, and I was like… LADIES, have you read your other books (for example, Love & Other Words, Beautiful Bastard, The True Love Experiment, etc.)? The steam is STEAMING in those books. Absolutely no hate for Tangled, but… have you read the club scene in Beautiful Stranger? The end.

you’ll love this book if you love:
