Swear on This Life
Swear on This Life - Renée Carlino
my review : ✮✮✮✮
If you adore Colleen Hoover-style romance novels, stop reading my review and head straight to your library to pick this one up. I think you’ll love the quick pacing, angsty second chance romance set against a darker back story. Seriously, CoHo fans, look no further!
I devoured this book in no time! It’s a super quick read that sucks you in from page one. The story alternates between then & now, and the way the “then” is told is unique and makes the story so captivating.
This book follows Emiline, a writing instructor at UC San Diego, who comes across the hottest book everyone’s talking about, written by author J. Colby. As she reads it, she realizes it’s her own story, written from her perspective, and the only person who could possibly be behind it is her first love... who she quickly realized IS J. Colby. Emiline hasn’t heard from him in over a decade and struggles with whether she should confront him and reopen the doors to her past that she has kept firmly shut.
I absolutely adored When We Were Strangers by this same author, and it remains my #1 favorite of hers, but it’s clear she’s a pro at writing a gripping romance. I loved our resilient leading woman and thought she was out of everyone’s league. This one wraps up quickly, and I wanted to spend more time with E & J!
Honestly, given the subject matter (lots of substance abuse issues), it felt inappropriate to pair this with a cocktail, so it was best paired with Chinese food because after it was mentioned in the book, it was ALL I could think about.
