Summers at the Saint

Summers at the Saint - Mary Kay Andrews

my review : ✮✮✮

I wanted something light, fun, and beachy, and this fit the bill. Mary Kay Andrews has been writing books for as long as I’ve been alive, and her stories always provide a fun escape. This would be a great buddy read to enjoy on a sun-soaked weekend with your mom or grandma (although there is some darker subject matter)!

This story is set at the iconic Saint Hotel in Georgia, known for its gorgeous accommodations and uber-wealthy clientele. Traci Eddings never could have afforded to stay at the Saint, but after falling in love & marrying the owner’s son, who tragically died years ago, she is now the CEO of the iconic hotel. She is set on restoring it to its former glory despite its mounting financial issues and staffing problems. This story is told via multiple POVs, from Traci, the CEO, to the waitress working at the hotel’s restaurant. When tragedy strikes The Saint (again!), a few amateur sleuths band together to try to figure out who is behind the murder, unknowingly putting themselves in harm’s way.

This is a super fast-paced read, and while you may see the ending coming, it’s fun getting lost in this one. Mary Kay Andrews’s books are always a bit over the top (but in a fun way!), kind of like a soap opera. The murder is shocking, but no one is that sad about it. The villains are very villain-y. The romance is a little bit cheesy, but overall, it is an enjoyable companion on a hot summer day!

Best paired with the Georgia Peach Cocktail from @texanerin !

Since this is about a coastal five-star hotel, I have to mention the gold standard for hotel beach fiction: Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand. If you like this, you’ll LOVE that book.
