Girl, Forgotten

Girl, Forgotten - Karen Slaughter

my review : ✮✮✮✮

A dark, twisty story that sucked me in right away. Yes, it is a sequel, but you can totally read it as a stand-alone (that’s what I did! It was my BOTM pick). This was a departure from the thrillers I typically read as it felt more like reading true crime.

Our story is centered around Emily Vaughn, a pregnant high school senior who was murdered on the evening of her prom. Fast forward 40 years and the murder has gone unsolved. The book begins with Andrea Oliver, a newly qualified US Marshal assigned to her first Marshall duty, protecting a judge receiving death threats. But, this isn’t Andrea’s real focus as she has her sights set on discovering who killed Emily Vaughan.

A book that may make you suspend your disbelief a bit but entertaining to read nonetheless. You won’t find any sunshine and rainbows hidden in these pages; this is a dark subject matter, intriguing writing, and characters that keep you guessing until the end. If you’re a fan of true crime, I think you’ll like this layered mystery.

I feel weird pairing morbid books with a cocktail! So I would say this is best paired with a romance novel to act as a palate cleanser when you’ve had enough of Andrea Oliver’s quest for justice.

you’ll love this book if you love:
