The Dead Romantics
The Dead Romantics - Ashley Poston
my review : ✮✮✮✮
This book is created for book lovers; it’s eccentric, unique, and for those that are open-minded to an anything-but-ordinary-romance. I think fans of Emily Henry’s writing will like how this story is written.
Once I tell you the synopsis, I think you will very quickly decide if this story is for you. Florence Day is a ghostwriter who occasionally sees ghosts (no, this book is not the least bit scary). Florence writes for one of the most famous romance authors of all time; she’s cranked out critically acclaimed books but has run into a roadblock with her most recent one because she simply cannot write a happy ending. When she meets her author’s (handsome, sexy, endearing) editor and he won’t give her an extension on her book, she is thrown into quite a panic. But then, Florence’s life turns upside down after receiving a heartbreaking phone call that her beloved dad has passed away, and she has to go home for the first time in 10 years. Upon returning to her small town and the funeral home her family owns, she gets a knock at her front door and is surprised to find her (handsome, sexy, endearing) editor - but no one else can see him, so Florence has to break it to him that he’s…dead. I told you it’s not your typical romance, people!
I was just smitten with this story. The dialogue, humor, and fresh premise were a fun change of pace from the human love stories.
Because of the ghosts, the fabulous Addams Family house Florence grew up in, and the spooky-yet-not-so-spooky elements, I think this is the perfect Halloween-time read. Maybe request it from your library and cross your fingers that it’s in your possession by October 1st? Or, buy it from your local bookseller and squirrel it away until the leaves start to fall.
Not for everyone, but if it’s for you, I think you’ll really enjoy it.
Best paired with Martha Stewart’s Ghosts in the Graveyard cocktail (combine 2 oz black vodka & 2 oz creme de cacao or coffee-flavored liquor in a glass, place a scoop of ice cream, and slowly pour the vodka mixture over the ice cream, garnish with nutmeg, Et Voila!)

my favorite quote:
“Not because I couldn't exist on my own, but sometimes I just didn't want to.
Sometimes I just wanted to let my guard down, let the pieces of me fall to the ground, and know that I had someone there who could put me back together without minding the sharp bits.”
