Breathless
Breathless

my review : ✮✮✮
One way to cool yourself down on a hot summer day? Transport yourself to the freezing mountain of Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak in the world.
This book follows journalist Cecily Wong as she snags the most sought-after interview with famous mountaineer Charles McVeigh. The catch? Charles will only give the interview after she summits the mountain with him. Cecily has given everything up for this story - her savings account, her boyfriend, and her sanity - to face this incredibly challenging mountain after some serious climbing failures in the past. But when Cecily gets to the mountain, and a few climbers die in “freak accidents,” she starts wondering if there is something more sinister at play. Stranded on a harrowing mountain in a remote part of the world, Cecily has to brave both the treacherous elements and this faceless killer.
This book held my attention throughout, and I loved learning about the world of climbing. It could get incredibly technical when it came to the climb, but I found it fascinating and a true foray into a world that is so new to me.
The main event of this book seemed to be the climb, with the thriller less of a focal point. I still found the writing suspenseful and creepy, and figuring out who the killer was kept me on the edge of my seat.
Best paired with something that will give you a brain freeze so you feel like you’re alongside Cecily on the mountain! May I suggest a frozen pineapple daiquiri?
