The Maidens

The Maidens - Alex Michaelides

my review : ✮✮✮

This story is bat shit crazy.

Are we all obsessed with the Silent Patient by the same author? Yes
Have we been waiting for this release all year? Yes
Does it live up to the hype? Eh- but honestly the hype might have been impossible to live up to
Is this still a fun thriller/mystery? YES

This book follows Mariana Andros, a group therapist who is grieving the loss of her husband. After a disturbing phone call from her niece, Mariana is certain professor Edward Fosca is a murderer.. but Fosca is untouchable. He’s a total charismatic babe who is a Greek Tragedy professor at Cambridge University, Fosca is adored by staff and students alike—particularly by the members of a creepy secret society of female students known as The Maidens. Mariana becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge.

This is a great mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. It is just as hard to put down as The Silent Patient but something fell a little flat for me. You will need to suspend your disbelief for a good portion of this book but nevertheless this is a beach read that might give you a paper-cut with how quickly you’re turning those pages!

Best paired with a Pinot noir and a summer thunderstorm 🌩

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • The Silent Patient - with the same addicting pacing

  • Expert storytelling that seamlessly keeps you entrenched in twisty story
