Yours Truly

Yours Truly - Abby Jimenez

my review : ✮✮✮✮

I found this romance to be unbelievably sweet. The characters were three-dimensional, the banter was lively, and the slow burn of it all was delicious. While we’re dealing with some tropes we often see (fake relationship & “help my brother is marrying my ex-girlfriend’), I found her take on them to be refreshing and feel real.

This delightful tale is about Briana Ortiz & Jacob Maddox, two brilliant ER doctors. Briana is going through a serious rough patch- her divorce is about to be finalized, her younger brother is running out of time to get a kidney donation, and she just found out she’s probably going to be passed up for the promotion she thought was in the bag. By who, you ask? New, hot doctor Jacob Maddox. Jacob could not be joining the hospital at a worse time, and our typically welcoming and kind Briana has decided that she hates the guy. That is until he writes her a kind & funny letter to clear the air. This letter sparks a back-and-forth that proves these two can be friends…. and so much more….

I like how Jacob isn’t like most leading men I see in romances; he’s pretty much the prototype for a cinnamon roll. He’s vulnerable, in touch with his feelings, has gone to therapy, and has a PLANT ROOM! Yet, also, he can be the opposite of a cinnamon roll when it counts (what is the opposite of a cinnamon roll? A head of broccoli?? I don’t know!). This is not a B.R.A.D but also not a closed-door romance either.

Overall, this story was a quick and lovely read that I’d recommend to fans of Emily Henry & Ali Hazelwood.

I find all of Abby Jimenez’s books to be super sweet, so if you’re new to her, I will start with her first book, The Friend Zone. Yours Truly is part of a series, but like all her books, you can read it as a stand-alone if you’d like… but I wouldn’t, as I loved Part of Your World!

Best paired with Better Homes & Garden’s Strawberry Basil Smash, in honor of Jacob’s plant room, as he would definitely provide the fresh basil for the recipe!

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • slow burn romances

  • fake relationship trope

my favorite quote:

“He was like a living lullaby. A softly spoken word. The smell of coffee and toast in the morning or a cozy fleece blanket. The rain pattering on the roof on a day where you don’t have to go anywhere or do anything.”
