The Sweet Spot

The Sweet Spot - Amy Poeppel

my review : ✮✮✮✮

An utter delight.

This may not be a love story in the conventional sense (between two romantic partners, although there’s a little bit of that sprinkled in here), but it is a love story between family, friends, neighbors, & strangers. I found this refreshing and perfect, especially if you feel you’ve been flooded with cheesy love stories during this season of love (I say this as the #1 fan of cheesy love stories 🧀 💗 ).

Our story is about one very historic brownstone and the cast of characters that inhabit it—whether it be for a week, a month, a year, or an afternoon. It’s the story of 3 unlikely friends and one baby. It’s a story of love and rage, punishment and forgiveness, young and…less young. Lauren is a fabulous artist, tasked with a huge commission and trying to balance her kids, husband, and mother (who’s decided to drop in for a week? Month? Who knows!). Melinda is a woman scorned after her husband of 30 years left her for a younger woman. The only way she can seem to deal with her new reality is to terrorize anyone who had anything to do with the dissolution of her marriage. Olivia is a young woman who is fired—in a very public way—and trying to figure out what her future looks like. These three women band together to take care of a baby that’s fallen into their laps. I know, it’s insane.

This book is CHAOTIC in a way that makes you desperately want to join in on the chaos.

The writing is lovely and fresh, I smiled throughout the story, and the cast of characters made me laugh out loud.

This book left me wanting to judge less and give more love, acceptance, and forgiveness!!!

Best paired with an old-fashioned in a basement bar. If you can’t find a basement bar, just the old-fashioned will suffice 🥃!
