That Summer

That Summer - Jennifer Weiner

my review : ✮✮✮

Jennifer Weiner knows how to write a beach read. This story is about two women named Diane who decide to meet after they keep getting emails meant for each other due to their similar email addresses. They form a friendship and learn they have a lot more in common than a few accidental emails would have you believe.

This is a coming of age story set in the idyllic beaches of the outer Cape. I do want to warn you, there is a great deal of talk about sexual assault throughout this book and it is a prominent theme.

I loved the way this was written but the ending left me so unsatisfied I don’t think I’d recommend.

A different Jennifer Weiner novel, for sure.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • An unlikely friendship trope

  • A book that tackles very tough issues - wrapped within a beach read cover

my favorite quote:

“Picture each worry like a gift. Put them in order, from the mildest to the most intense. Imagine yourself picking up each one and wrapping it with care. Picture yourself placing the gift under a tree, and then walking away.”
