Can't Look Away

Can't Look Away - Carola Lovering

my review : ✮✮✮

The title of this book is extremely accurate; you cannot look away from this story (no matter how much you might want to). While Carola is known as a thriller writer, I would not consider this a thriller, as nothing is shocking or creepy about the story. This is more of a domestic drama plagued with love, obsession, and a bit of suspense weaved in.

Our story is told across multiple timelines- one follows the beloved Molly Diamond (seriously- everyone that meets her falls instantly in love with her!! Am I jealous? Maybe!!) and her whirlwind romance with the frontman of rock band Danner Lane when she's 23. Molly and Jake lock eyes one fateful night, and neither can look away (get it!!), leading to an epic love story. The other timeline is the present day, where we find Molly as a mom married to someone else living in suburban Connecticut- a world away from her days in NYC dating a rockstar. Suburbia leaves a lot to be desired for Molly, she doesn't fit in with the women and misses her NYC life, that is until she meets Sabrina, who is the BFF she's been searching for in Connecticut. Sabrina has her own reasons for moving to CT and befriending Molly. As Sabrina's secrets slowly unravel, her connection to Molly becomes clearer––as do secrets of Molly's own….

At times, this felt more like a teenage love story than grown adults, but the writing style was so addicting I couldn't have parted with this if I wanted to.

I was sucked into the story, but when it ended, I was like, "so that's it?". If you're in the mood for a thriller, I would recommend Carola's other book, Too Good to be True.

If you do want to read a book about a rock star/normal girl romance, skip this and read the Idea of You!

Best paired with a vodka martini (because I just read an article saying it’s the unofficial state cocktail of Connecticut)!! do want to read a book about a rock star/normal girl romance, skip this and read the Idea of You!
