What Lies in the Woods

What Lies in the Woods - Kate Alice Marshall

my review : ✮✮✮✮

A book that made me double-check all the locks before I went to bed last night. Dripping with suspense and darkness, this book was both hard to stop thinking about and difficult to put down.

The thriller is about a crime committed 20 years ago and the victims in the present day. Twenty-two years ago, Naomi Shaw would play with her best friends, Cassie and Olivia, in the woods all summer long. Their games ended abruptly when Naomi was attacked and almost murdered. Naomi and her friend’s testimony put away the serial killer wanted for murdering six women. Decades later, Naomi gets word that the killer died in prison from cancer. She heads back to the small town she grew up in and reunites with her two best friends. When Olivia decides she wants to tell the truth about the lie the girls have kept secret for decades, Naomi decides she has to find out what really happened in the woods.

A gripping story with a disturbing premise and great pacing. Sure, some of the plot points were a bit over the top. But don’t we come to love and expect that in our thrillers? This is a great thriller to read on a hot summer night (bonus points if you crack this open near a heavily wooded area… I COULD NEVER).
