The Things We Cannot Say
The Things We Cannot Say - Kelly Rimmer
my review : ✮✮✮✮✮
This book is incredible and has basically rendered me speechless.
This is a historical fiction novel set in Nazi-occupied Poland during WW2. We follow Alina Dziak, 15 years old, engaged to the love of her life, and coming to grips with her new reality as Nazi soldiers invade her small town. This story alternates between modern-day and Nazi-occupied Poland. Like any story set during this time, it is incredibly devastating, heartbreaking, and necessary reading.
I love this book and recommend it if you love historical fiction, or just want to try something new. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with this novel. Incredible storytelling. One of my favorite books of 2021.
After reading this book I wanted to do a vodka tasting ASAP. I would pair this book with my friend’s recipe, the “Warsaw Cocktail”. 1 1/2 oz of vodka, blackberry flavored brandy, dry vermouth, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Shake all ingredients and strain into a chilled glass.
**for my audiobook lovers: the reviews say this is an excellent audiobook!!** 👂

A stunningly written and emotion-inducing historical fiction
Two powerful, alternating timelines
my favorite quote:
“Life has a way of shattering our expectations, of leaving our hopes in pieces without explanation. But when there's love in a family, the fragments left behind from our shattered dreams can always be pulled together again, even if the end result is a mosaic.”
