Canadian Boyfriend

Canadian Boyfriend - Jenny Holiday

my review : ✮✮✮

A cute love story between two well-adjusted adults who go to therapy! I feel like that doesn’t happen that often? I thought this story was sweet and was so anxious to read it because of my LOVE of “Duke, Actually” by the same author. I don’t know if I was just under the influence of Christmas cheer and hot chocolate, but “Duke, Actually” is one of my favorite holiday romances ever! Unfortunately, this one didn’t give me butterflies, so it wasn’t a love for me. The good news is, butterflies are personal, so maybe Mike Martin will give YOU butterflies!

This story is about Rory & Mike Martin. Rory is an incredibly talented ballerina turned ballet teacher who teaches Mike Martin’s sweet daughter, Olivia. Mike Martin recently lost his wife and is grappling with being a single dad. When it’s clear one of the few things that brings Olivia joy is Rory and her ballet class, Mike asks Rory to nanny Olivia while he’s on the road with the NHL. Mike is strong, strapping, and sweet, and Rory is kind, beautiful, and smart, so they are a match made in heaven, except Mike and Rory know they cannot upend Olivia’s life with a relationship. Lots of personal growth! I could have used more yearning!

I want you to be aware of two major trigger warnings because they are significant to the story! Rory suffers from an eating disorder, and Mike is grappling with the death of his wife. Heavy stuff but handled well, in my humble opinion.

This is a sweet story that I’d call more of a “get from the library” pick and less of a “spend your hard-earned dough on” pick. It’s open door but NOT a B.R.A.D.

Have you read this? What did you think? Did you feel the chemistry between these two?

Best paired with a raspberry romance cocktail or mocktail💕💕

you’ll love this book if you love:
