The Christmas Bookshop

The Christmas Bookshop - Jenny Colgan

my review : ✮✮✮✮

This story pulled allll my heartstrings. A very dreamy holiday read.

Carmen finds herself in a tricky situation when the department store she’s worked at for years closes for good. With very little options, her mom urges her to move in with her perfect sister, Sofia, in Edinburgh. Sofia doesn’t want Carmen there either but with another baby on the way and a client who needs retail assistance for his languishing bookstore, welcoming Carmen might have benefits for everyone. Carmen soon finds herself in the picturesque city of Edinburg running an ancient bookshop that needs to turn a profit by Christmas.

I adored this sweet story and think it’s the perfect December book to pick up.I loved the author’s writing.

Edinburg is officially on my travel bucket list.

This is totally a Hallmark movie in book form with way better writing and you get to mentally cast it yourself (aka we don’t need to see Candace Cameron Bure for the thousandth time on screen).

Absolutely mandatory to make some mulled wine after reading this (Add 1 bottle dry red wine, 1/4 cup brandy brandy, 1 orange sliced, 8 whole cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 star anise, and 2 tablespoons sweetener to a large saucepan. Stir briefly to combine. Cook on medium until it barely reaches a simmer, reduce heat to low , remove cloves, cinnamon, star anise, and serve!- recipe via @gimmesomeoven )

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • A magical Christmas setting that values family

  • An elevated Hallmark-esque story
