Flying Solo

Flying Solo - Linda Holmes

my review : ✮✮✮

A lovely, cozy, and charming story of self-discovery.

This one follows Laurie, who just called off her wedding and is returning to her hometown in Maine to help settle her Great Aunt Dot’s estate. As she wades through the memories and mementos, Laurie finds a wooden duck hidden amongst Dot’s things. Laurie is told that the duck has no financial value, but after it disappears under suspicious circumstances, she feels compelled to figure out why anyone would steal a wooden duck…and why Dot kept it hidden away in the first place. With some second-chance romance, a dash of adventure, and brimming with self-discovery, this story is a sweet treat.

The book is written by the author of Evvie Drake Starts Over, which I just adored. Personally, that remains #1 for me, but this was a delightful way to pass a summer day. At times, I had a hard time relating to Laurie, but I think that’s the beauty of this book: learning and accepting how other people want to live their lives.

Best paired with an iced tea spiked with a splash of whiskey.

you’ll love this book if you love:

  • A story of personal growth & a second-chance romance

  • Evvie Drake Starts Over

my favorite quote:

“But if you’re surprised that I’m excited to see Lisa after four days, then I’m glad you didn’t marry Chris. Because you deserve to miss the hell out of somebody after four days, and you deserve to have them miss you too.”
